History
Kodiak Lions was formed in 1964 right after the ’64 earthquake. The sponsoring Lions club, which provided the nucleus of leadership training, was the Eagle River Lions Club. To this day, the Eagle River Lions Club and Kodiak Lions maintain a close relationship. The main reason Lions was formed in this town was the local Rotary Club would not invite the local bar owners to be members of their organization, and so the club’s owners sought out another means to show community support and the Lions stood up. Now, the Kodiak Lions are often noted as “the” local organization for getting things done. Thanks, Rotary Club! The “long” history of this club will be included as appendix _ someday. It will be great reading!
Philosophy
The single word that not only describes, but also bests captures the very being of the Kodiak Lions Club, is FUN. In every endeavor, the Kodiak Lions focus is on having fun, no matter what. We will strive to have fun in the most serious of occasions, the hardest work parties, at every function we attend or host. If it isn’t fun, we will figure out a way to make it so. At the same time, we will work very hard at making and giving away money to the community.
Goal and Objectives
Our goals and objectives can be clearly stated: Work hard, have fun, make a lot of money, and give it all away to a good cause. Supporting our community’s children maintains a very high position in our clubs priority list. After that, there is no end to our participation in ways which we will help out in the community. We often will support other organizations because of our ability to mobilize manpower. We want to make our community a better place for all to live in, and we will often help those members of the community, for whatever reason, who may need help at a bad time in their lives. Although there is a balance in how we spend our funds (a board of director’s function), you will find that there is usually a very specific vision on how the funds that are being allocated will benefit the community as a whole.
